Third All-Kilohana Men's Team Completes Molokai Hoe
Honolulu (October 9, 2005) - The third all-Kilohana men's crew capped off Kilohana's successful 2005 racing season today with an awesome finish in the 2005 Molokai Hoe. The crew of Chris Wong, Buddy Edwards, Peter MacNally, Melvin Josafat, John Gerodias, Dave Henderson, Peter Hirshmann, Chris Cooper and Jason Teter completed the grueling 41-mile race from Hale O Lono Harbor on Molokai to Duke Kahanamoku Beach, in Waikiki, Oahu in 7:13:38, placing 75th out of 107 crews that started the race.
Catalina
Catalina was again on our calendar and we sent 2 crews and then some. Our Wahine placed in the top 10 for Spec Division, and our Kane battled in some of the best head to head battles. Some of our paddlers were also able to paddle with other crews. Beethoven Cheng was able to secure a seat with SFOCC, and had to be one of the guys most proud to be in not one but two huli. Mary Lou Lumiqued and Amy Mah found seats with SFOCC wahine and they had big smiles all da way round in their race. After hearing from them, it reminded me so much as to why we love to paddle - true spirit and positive mana.
Sprint Summary
June and July is sprint season and Kilohana took 2nd place overall in big club category for the second year in a row. Equally impressive was our 3rd straight 1st place award for V-1 racing.
It shows the strength and number of paddlers that we have. My hats off to all of Kilohana, as I saw many of our paddlers taking the opportunity to compete in V-1 racing.
